Year 3 The Great North Museum

Year 3’s Exciting Journey to Ancient Egypt at the Great North Museum!

Earlier this week, Year 3 set off on an exciting adventure to the Great North Museum to bring their learning about Ancient Egypt to life! The trip was a fantastic way to build on everything they have already discovered in class and prepare them for an in-depth unit on Ancient Egypt next half-term.

From the moment we arrived, the children were bursting with enthusiasm, eager to explore and uncover the secrets of this fascinating civilisation. The day was packed with exciting activities, and every child had the chance to take part in a carousel of hands-on experiences.

One of the highlights was learning about the journey to the afterlife. The children were captivated as they discovered how the Ancient Egyptians believed that a person’s heart was weighed against the feather of truth to decide if they would reach the afterlife. Imagining themselves in the Hall of Judgement, the children thought about what their own hearts might reveal – a truly thought-provoking moment!

Another fantastic activity involved exploring a giant map of Ancient Egypt. The children worked together to locate key places, such as the mighty River Nile, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the Valley of the Kings.

Year 3 also put their artistic skills to the test by sketching some of the incredible artefacts they had seen. Using the techniques they have been developing in art and design lessons, they carefully observed shapes, patterns, and details to create fantastic drawings. The effort and focus they showed were outstanding!

Throughout the trip, the children demonstrated excellent behaviour, showing curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm. They asked brilliant questions, shared their knowledge, and represented our school beautifully. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and discovery – a perfect way to spark excitement for the fascinating topic of Ancient Egypt next half-

term! Check out the below link to find out more information on the Ancient Egyptians.
