Year 3 – ThatHistoryBloke!

Today, our school had the pleasure of hosting a special guest, a history enthusiast who took us on an enthralling journey back in time to ancient Egypt. The classroom was transformed into a portal to the land of the Pharaohs as pupils eagerly listened and participated in various activities that shed light on this fascinating civilisation.

Dressed in traditional Egyptian attire, ThatHistoryBloke! transported pupils with vivid storytelling and interactive demonstrations.

One of the highlights of the session was the practical demonstration of mummification. Pupils had the opportunity to dress up as ancient Egyptians and participate in the process of wrapping a body part, mimicking the intricate rituals performed by the embalmers thousands of years ago. This hands-on experience provided a unique insight into the beliefs and practices surrounding death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt.

Another fascinating aspect of the presentation was the exploration of the process of removing organs and placing them in canopic jars. Pupils were captivated by the meticulous attention to detail and the spiritual significance attached to each step of the mummification process.

In addition to mummification, our guest speaker provided insight into the board games enjoyed by the ancient Egyptians. From Senet, a game of strategy and luck played by pharaohs and commoners alike, to Mehen, a game symbolizing the journey of the sun god Ra through the underworld, pupils had the opportunity to learn about the leisure activities that brought joy and entertainment to ancient Egyptian society.

As the session came to a close, pupils left with a newfound appreciation for the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt.
