Year 3 – Science – Water

The Effects of Food Dye on Plants with Roots

Plants absorb liquids through their roots and stems. Substances in the water a plant drinks have an impact on the growth, colour and overall health of the flowers and foliage the plant produces. We aimed to prove this in our science investigation and used food dye in plant water and then observed the effects the food dye had on the flowers. The children observed how the dyed water affects the flowers, recording what they see and making predictions about what will happen to the plant.
