Year 3 – Number Representations

Year 3 children began their maths lesson with a think, pair, share activity today. Children were asked to look at a problem that focused on different representations of a three digit number. Children were asked to sit and think about the challenge for twenty seconds, then they paired up with a child next to them, then they shared their findings. After this, children were tasked in solving the problem.

Children had a 3-digit number, 143, and had to use their reasoning skills to work out that this number needed to be represented in different ways, for example – Base 10, written word, location on a number line, and using their knowledge of hundreds, tens, and ones, this needed to be added correctly into a place value column.
