Year 3 – Newcastle upon Tyne

Year 3 children have been learning all about Newcastle upon Tyne and the different areas and monuments that make it such a special and historic place.

Children have learned all about the historic Grainger Town area of the city; the magnificent St. James’ Park and the early history of Newcastle United Football Club; Grey’s Monument (Did you know that there is a time capsule under the foundation stone or that the monument should have been 16ft higher but they ran out of money?); and the Newcastle Castle.

Using factual information, photographs, subheading, formal tone, a ‘Did you know fact?’, a title, an introduction, and ambitious vocabulary, children wrote a non chronological report all about the city.
