Year 3 – I’ve been to Harlem

Year 3 children had a brilliant music session today and focused on body percussion and actions linked to the Sing Up unit of work, I’ve been to Harlem. To prepare for this, children did a series of body percussion techniques that included: tap knee with right hand, tap knee with left hand, tap shoulder right hand, tap shoulder left hand. A great exercise and activity for children.

Children then focused on cup rhythms and used a plastic cup to the song I’ve been to Harlem. Children had a greater level of complexity in this series so we spoke aloud the verb for each action – slap, twist, pop…
