Year 3 – Exploring Prehistoric Art in Year 3

This term in Art and Design, Year 3 have been travelling back in time to the Stone Age! The children have been exploring the fascinating world of prehistoric art, discovering how our ancient ancestors expressed themselves through their drawings and carvings.

To bring this topic to life, the class has been experimenting with a range of artistic mediums. From sketch pencils and charcoal to oil pastels, the children have had the chance to get hands-on with different tools and techniques. They’ve even ventured outside to collect natural materials, just like the early artists, to use in their creations!

Inspired by Stone Age cave paintings, the children have focused on drawing simple, striking designs. Animals were a central theme in prehistoric art, and Year 3 have created wonderful interpretations of birds, capturing the raw, earthy feel of these ancient masterpieces.

It’s been amazing to see the children embrace such a creative project, blending the old with the new as they learn about art through history
