Recently, our school hosted guests from Eat Smart UK, who educated pupils on the extensive journey food takes from farm to table and the significant resources involved. They explained the stages of food production, including cultivation, harvesting, transportation, processing, packaging, and distribution, emphasizing the resource intensity at each step. The presentation highlighted the environmental and economic impacts of food waste, noting that wasted food squanders resources like water, energy, and labor, and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Pupils learned about mindful eating, proper food storage, and creative ways to use leftovers, underscoring the importance of reducing food waste. The interactive session aimed to instil habits that promote sustainability and environmental responsibility. The visit from Eat Smart UK provided valuable insights, empowering students to make conscious decisions about food consumption and waste, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.
