Year 1 – Science – The Blubber Experiment

In science, Year 1 have been learning all about winter. They learned about how humans keep warm in the winter by wearing more layers of clothing. They then found out that animals don’t need clothes to keep warm as come animals such as polar bears, have thick fur, small ears and blubber which keeps them warm in cold weather.

Pupils then put two hands in cold water. One hand had a layer on blubber around it and the other did not. The children found out that the hand inside the blubber was dry and warm after 15 seconds in the cold water.
