Year 1 – Recycling STEM challenge

Today, Year 1 took part in a STEM challenge with the Success 4 All Team. The children learned all about recycling and what items we should be recycling each day and the importance of reusing and recycling.

Pupils then learned how long certain items take to decompose. Did you know that a plastic bottle can take up to 450 years to fully decompose?

The children were then shown how to make paper out of recycled paper. They used shredded paper and water, then mixed these with a blender. The children then took the paste made and flattened it out to make their piece of paper. Once they have dried, the children will be able to use these to draw or write on.
