Year 1 have been focussing on the artwork by Henri Matisse. The children created a piece of artwork inspired by Matisse as their first piece. Children then responded to one of Matisse’s most famous pieces ‘The Snail’ , we talked about the different colours and shapes used and how he created a collage.
We then looked closely at how to improve our cutting skills. The children learned the rhyme ‘Two fingers on the bottom and thumb on the top, open up the mouth and chop chop chop.’ to help with their cutting technique.
The children then produced their final piece which linked to their recent science topic of seasons. They chose the correct coloured paper that linked to the season and created a collage using the cutting and sticking skills they had acquired. Super work!
