This week Year 1 have been learning about the artists Jasper Johns and Clarice Cliff in their art lessons. Pupils learned how these artists used primary colours to create their initial pieces and then made secondary colours to add more detail into their artwork.
Firstly, children created a piece inspired by Jasper Johns by only using the 3 primary colours and painting numbers 0-10 to make their unique piece of art. Pupils then continued to use the primary colours and added Lego to print onto their paper. There was a challenge to see if children could write their name using the Lego bricks!
Children then explored colour mixing and how to make different shades of green. Pupils found that when they added more yellow the shade of green was brighter, and when they added more blue it became darker.
Year 1 then used the skills and knowledge they had built up this week to create their final piece on a paper plate inspired by Clarice Cliff’s ceramic artwork. Fantastic work Year 1⭐️
