In Year 5 Science, we’ve been exploring the fascinating world of forces through hands-on investigations. We started by studying air resistance, creating parachutes of different sizes and materials to see how surface area affects their fall speed, discovering that larger parachutes fall slower due to increased air resistance. Next, we tackled water resistance by designing streamlined boats and testing how shape impacts movement through water, with more streamlined designs cutting through water more efficiently. Finally, we investigated friction by moving shoes across various surfaces such as carpet, wood, and tile, measuring how different textures affected the amount of newtons it took to pull the shoe. Throughout these experiments, we made predictions, interpreted data, and drew conclusions about how air resistance, water resistance, and friction influence the movement of objects, deepening our understanding of these important forces.
