Over the last few weeks the Waste Warriors (Eco Club and School Council) have been working with Bind to help to reduce food waste in school through a program called Eat Smart. The Waste Warriors have done a brilliant job at weighing and recording food waste around the school in our food waste audit week.
Children were then given a survey to complete to decide how we could reduce food waste in our school, some of the ideas were to give stickers to children who finish all of their meal and give smaller portions for younger children.
The Waste Warriors then met up to discuss the findings of the first audit. They found that 78kg of food was wasted in school which is equivalent to 294 meals! Pupils then sorted their ideas of how to reduce food waste into quick fixes and slow fixes. The Waste Warriors then presented their findings and ideas to the rest of school in assembly.
The Waste Warriors will be implementing new ideas over the next 4 weeks to help to reduce the food waste in school! More updates to come…
