This week in Reception the children have been learning all about trains and other vehicles as part of their topic ‘Ticket to Ride!’ During continuous provision in the classroom, the children enjoyed lots of challenges. Some of the challenges included in the Loose Part Area building a train track to support the trains. This took a great deal of patience and resilience as the track kept collapsing!
The children decided they wanted to build the longest train track they could and they included tunnels (tables) and it stretched right around the classroom.
The children enjoyed taking on the roles as mechanics and customers in role play area. There were lots of broken cars and the mechanics were very busy using all of the tools and filling in forms.
There was a numicon challenge, where the children had to find the correct numicon pieces to fill the different modes of transport and then count up the total. Finally they had to record the total number in the table.
Some children completed the colour by number activity. This involved following the key and colouring each part of the train the correct colour.
In class there was lots of discussions about journeys and different ways to travel. Some children completed a cutting and sticking activity to complete their very own road map whilst others built their own roads using the giant road jigsaw.
There were opportunities to write all around the classroom.
