The Great Fire of Newcastle

Year 2 have launched into their new history topic with a fantastic workshop about the Great Fire of Gateshead with Richard, the History Bloke. We learnt about life in Victorian Newcastle and Gateshead and looked at how Newcastle Quayside has changed over time.

We had a chance to explore historical artefacts related to different jobs and tried to guess what line of work they were related to. Some artefacts were easier to identify the purpose of than others so we had to infer their function based on the other objects in each box. It was very interesting to learn about how life has changed since Victorian times and the challenges faced by the people living in this time.
