Reception Learning

Reception have had a busy week engaged in lots of activities linked to our focus book ‘Handa’s Surprise,’ by Eileen Browne. This story is set in Kenya, Africa and it is about a girl who makes a journey with a surprise basket of fruit to her friend Akeyo in a neighbouring village. The children have begun a writing project from ‘The Write Stuff’ all about Handa and are learning new vocabulary to use in their sentence writing.

Within the continuous provision the children have been engaged in learning new skills such as weaving, refining already learnt skills such as cutting and have created their own journey maps for Handa.

The children have been listening to the story via the laptop and have been creating their own version of the story using the small world toys incorporating the newly learnt vocabulary.
