Reception learning

What a busy week it has been in Reception! The children have had lots of challenges and jobs to do linked to their topic of, ‘Ticket to Ride.’ The focus book of the week was, ‘You can’t take an elephant on a bus,’ by Patricia Cleveland-Peck and the children have enjoyed lots of vehicle related activities. The children enjoyed making their own buses and had to cut out all of the pieces of the bus template and carefully stick them together.

There was lots to do in the garage role play area and it seemed lots of cars were due their MOTs. The mechanics worked hard checking all of the cars and the sales people answered phones and dealt with the paper work and enquiries.

The loose parts are was very popular as the children were challenged to build their own garages and to park the numbered cars in the correctly numbered parking spaces.

The children have been consolidating their learning about the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure. They have been exploring how 10 can be composed and enjoyed playing the burnt sausage game and were able to record different ways of making ten.

Reception have also been learning about rhyming words and had fun playing the rhyming word game and recording words that rhyme.
