Investigating how heating and cooling effects materials

In Year 2 we have been learning about the properties of different materials. Today we explored the effects of heating and cooling materials on different objects. First we observed what happened when we heated ice. We noticed that the ice changed from a solid into a liquid. Next we investigated how temperature effects play dough. We heated some play dough using hot water and placed some in ice to cool it. We compared how easily it could be shaped after being placed in different conditions. We noticed that hot play dough was more flexible than cold or room temperature play dough. We also noticed that the play dough in ice became hard and less flexible.
