Year 2 have been learning about structures and stability. First we explored the concept of stability, using 3D shape. We made different shapes and used a piece of cars to see which would stay standing the longest when tilted. We noticed that shapes with flat surfaces were most stable.
Next we were presented with a problem, Baby Bear needed a new chair. We decided a chair needed to be stable and support weight. With this as a success criteria, we made chairs using card and masking tape. We noticed cylinders were the strongest 3D shape so used them as legs. When they were finished we tested their strength and stability.
