In gymnastics, Year 3 pupils have been exploring both point balancing and its opposite, base balancing.
While point balancing requires pupils to balance on specific points of their body, such as one foot, one hand, or even a single knee, base balancing involves a wider support. In base balancing, the children use a larger area of contact, such as both feet or both hands, to create a more stable foundation. This allows them to feel more secure while they practise balancing, helping to build strength and control.
By learning both point and base balancing, our pupils are developing a well-rounded understanding of balance, from the more challenging point balancing to the steadier, more supportive base balancing.
For stretching, they’ve been practising positions like pike stretches, straddle stretches, and forward bends, which help to improve flexibility and body control.
By practising both stretching and point balancing, our pupils are building a strong foundation in flexibility, balance, and strength, all key skills for future gymnastics development.
